Bollywood actress Amisha Patel has once again found herself at the centre of controversy, as a court in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, recently issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against her. The directive relates to a cheque bounce case in which the actress allegedly failed to appear for scheduled hearings, prompting the judiciary to take this stringent action.
The legal dispute dates back nearly a decade. In 2017, event manager Pawan Verma filed a complaint alleging that he had engaged Amisha Patel for a wedding event, agreeing to pay her a fee of ₹14,50,000. According to the complaint, the actress did not attend the function, subsequently demanded additional payments, and reportedly left the venue without fulfilling her commitments.
While ₹10,00,000 of the agreed sum was later returned, a cheque covering the remaining ₹4,50,000 reportedly bounced. Pawan Verma claims that, despite repeated assurances of repayment, the outstanding amount was never settled.
The Moradabad court had previously issued multiple summons, but Amisha Patel did not appear on the designated dates. Consequently, the court escalated the matter by issuing a non-bailable arrest warrant, ordering her personal appearance on 27 March 2026.
Amisha Patel has publicly denied the allegations. She asserted that the matter is long-standing and that all financial transactions were completed in accordance with proper documentation. Additionally, she accused Pawan Verma of filing a deliberately false case against her.
The case details can be summarised in the following table:

Legal experts and industry observers are closely monitoring developments, as this case raises questions about professional accountability and transparency in Bollywood. The next hearing is expected to set a precedent for how cheque bounce disputes involving celebrities are handled.
Meanwhile, the controversy has reignited debates surrounding the financial and contractual obligations of high-profile personalities in India’s entertainment sector. The outcome of this case could have broader implications, not only for Amisha Patel’s career reputation but also for legal practices concerning similar financial disputes in the film industry.
