Following the swearing-in of Members of Parliament elected to the Thirteenth National Parliament, the formal process of constituting the new government has commenced. On Tuesday morning, the newly elected MPs took their oath of office. Later the same afternoon, members of the new cabinet are scheduled to be sworn in at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Under the leadership of party chairman Tarique Rahman, a 50-member council of ministers is being formed. According to party sources, the cabinet will comprise 25 full ministers, 24 state ministers and one technocrat adviser, reflecting what insiders describe as a deliberate balance between political experience and professional expertise.

Composition and Strategic Emphasis

Political analysts observe that the cabinet blends senior figures with comparatively younger leaders, alongside technocrats drawn from specialised backgrounds. Emphasis has reportedly been placed on administrative efficiency, macroeconomic management, diplomatic engagement and national security. Party officials argue that such a configuration is designed to ensure swift policy implementation while maintaining political cohesion.

The inclusion of technocrats in both full ministerial and state ministerial ranks signals a technocratic infusion into governance, particularly in sectors requiring technical competence and regulatory reform.

Immediate Policy Challenges

Observers identify four principal challenges confronting the new administration: restoring macroeconomic stability, containing inflationary pressures, strengthening foreign relations and undertaking administrative reform.

Bangladesh’s recent economic headwinds—ranging from external financing constraints to domestic price volatility—require coordinated fiscal and monetary policy responses. Diplomatic recalibration and renewed engagement with development partners are also expected to feature prominently on the government’s agenda.

Ultimately, the cabinet’s effectiveness will be judged by its capacity to maintain political stability while delivering prompt, evidence-based policy decisions. The coming months are likely to serve as a decisive test of its administrative competence and reformist intent.
