Tragedy struck in Anwara, Chattogram, on Sunday morning when two construction workers fell from a building under construction, resulting in their deaths. The incident occurred around 11:00 am at the residence of Kalu Soudagar in the Gundhipara area of Botoli Union.

The deceased have been identified as Siam, aged 19, from Kushtia, and Anis, aged 25, from Rajshahi. Both had been employed under a local contractor in Anwara for the past six months.

According to eyewitnesses, six workers were engaged in plastering work on the six-storey building when the accident occurred. While working on the railings, Siam and Anis reportedly fell onto a scaffolding platform below after the railing gave way. The scaffolding itself collapsed upon impact. Siam was pronounced dead at the scene, while Anis succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

One of the eyewitnesses, Junayed Islam from Botoli village, described the incident: “Two of our colleagues were inside working, while four of us were outside. Suddenly, the railing broke and the two fell to the ground.”

Attempts to reach the building contractor, Mohammad Shoaib Noor, by phone were unsuccessful, as the number remained unreachable despite multiple calls.

Medical authorities at Anwara Health Complex confirmed the fatalities. Dr. Muntasir Jahin stated, “Both bodies are at the hospital, and the police have been informed of the incident.”

Anwara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Junayet Chowdhury, added that the bodies would be sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further examination. He assured that a full investigation would be conducted and appropriate legal measures would follow.
