A brutal double crime has shaken a rural community in Ishwardi, Pabna, where a 65-year-old grandmother was killed and her teenage granddaughter allegedly abducted, raped, and murdered in the same night. The nude body of the 15-year-old girl was later recovered from a nearby mustard field, intensifying fear and outrage among residents.

The incident occurred late on Friday night, 27 February, in the Bhabanipur Uttarpara area of Dashuria Union under Ishwardi upazila in Pabna. According to police and family sources, unidentified assailants attacked the household sometime after midnight.

The deceased have been identified as Sufia Khatun (65), wife of Nazimuddin of Bhabanipur Uttarpara village, and her granddaughter Jamila Akter (15). Preliminary findings suggest that Jamila may have been sexually assaulted before being killed, although investigators have stated that the final confirmation will depend on post-mortem results.

Family members reported that villagers heard cries during the night and briefly came out onto the road to investigate. When the sounds subsided, they returned to their homes, assuming the disturbance had ended. However, in the morning, Sufia Khatun’s blood-soaked body was discovered in the courtyard of the house.

As panic spread, relatives began searching for Jamila, who was missing from the home. Her body was eventually found in a mustard field adjacent to the residence. She was discovered without clothing, and visible signs at the scene led both locals and police to suspect rape followed by murder.

Officer-in-Charge Md Mominuzzaman of Ishwardi Police Station confirmed that police recovered both bodies on Saturday morning after receiving information from local residents. “We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. A thorough investigation is underway to determine who was involved and what the motive might have been,” he stated.

Preparations are being made to send the bodies to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for post-mortem examinations, which are expected to provide crucial forensic evidence.
