Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim, convener of the Dhaka University (DU) Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall unit of the Chhatra Dal, has been issued a show-cause notice by the central Chhatra Dal over allegations of violating organisational discipline. The notice requires him to explain his recent actions that the leadership considers inconsistent with the party’s code of conduct.
The directive was issued on Friday, 27 February, through a letter signed by the organisation’s office secretary, holding the rank of vice-president, Md. Jahangir Alam. The letter explicitly instructs Hamim to provide a formal written explanation of his conduct.
In a video message posted on his Facebook account, Hamim addressed the notice, stating, “I have learned that I have been issued a show-cause notice for organising an Iftar gathering yesterday, Thursday, for the students of Dhaka University.” He further elaborated, “They asked me to respond in writing. However, I will not do so, for a particular reason—I was not personally handed the show-cause notice. Certainly, I have not committed any major wrongdoing that would justify a personal delivery of such a notice. Instead, the notice was delivered directly through social media, and now people across Bangladesh are calling me to ask what I have allegedly done wrong.”
Hamim is a well-known figure within the Dhaka University Chhatra Dal and has actively participated in student politics. He previously contested the position of General Secretary (GS) in the last DUCSU elections as part of a Chhatra Dal-supported panel. His leadership and engagement with students have made him a prominent voice in the campus political landscape.
The table below summarises the key details regarding the show-cause notice:
