The bustling heart of the capital has been plunged into a state of profound shock and trepidation following the discovery of a gruesome dismemberment murder. In a swift and decisive operation, the police apprehended 21-year-old Shahin Alam on Saturday, 28 February, in connection with the brutal slaying of his roommate, Obaidullah. The killing, described by authorities as a "crime of passion and personal vendetta," has left local residents reeling from the sheer cold-blooded nature of the act.

The Discovery and Investigation

The investigation was ignited by a series of macabre discoveries across various landmarks in the city. According to Hussain Muhammad Farabi, the Assistant Commissioner of the Motijheel Zone, the breakthrough in the case came through the meticulous analysis of CCTV footage. Investigators observed a suspect transporting suspicious black polythene packages via bicycle near the Scout Building.

Police officials confirmed that both the suspect and the victim were employees at the Hirajheel Hotel in Motijheel and shared a flat in the vicinity. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Obaidullah, was a native of the Shibpur area in Narsingdi and also worked as a sales representative for a homeopathic firm. His identity was officially confirmed through forensic fingerprinting.

The sheer scale of the disposal effort necessitated a multi-site recovery operation. The timeline of these grim discoveries is detailed below:

Motive and Confession

Upon his arrest, Shahin Alam reportedly confessed to the homicide during initial interrogation. He claimed that the murder was a culmination of long-standing personal grievances. Alam alleged that the victim, Obaidullah, had frequently targeted him and his family with derogatory remarks and verbal abuse.

Driven by "personal resentment," Alam purportedly strangled Obaidullah to death late Friday night. In an attempt to conceal the crime and dispose of the evidence, he used a sharp cleaver—later seized by the police—to dismember the body before scattering the remains across the city under the cover of darkness.

Community Safety and Police Response

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun or Rashid stated that while several limbs have been recovered, the search for the remaining torso and head continues. The police are now focusing on whether any other accomplices were involved in the logistics of the disposal.

This horrific incident has raised urgent questions regarding the safety of shared living arrangements in the capital. Local authorities have stepped up patrols and issued advisories regarding the vetting of roommates. The chilling nature of this "bicycle-borne disposal" has served as a grim reminder of the volatility of interpersonal conflicts in high-density urban environments.
